How does booking work, and how far ahead should I reserve?

The slots that fill soonest tend to be weekends, the open and close of any month, and the busy summer relocation window driven by corporate transfers, so try to give two weeks or so of lead time for those whenever the calendar permits.
Do I have to put money down to reserve?
On most local moves, nothing goes down. You reserve the date and pay once the job is done. Out-of-state work does take a modest sum to lock in a crew and a truck, and that sum credits toward the binding total. Either way, the amount is spelled out in writing before you commit to a thing.
My building requires a Certificate of Insurance. Can you provide one?
We do this all the time. The high-rises in North San Jose and downtown, along with the gated foothill communities up in Los Gatos and Saratoga, want one on file. Send over your building's rules along with a contact for the property manager, and Sergio in dispatch files the certificate and reserves whatever loading dock or freight-elevator slot the day calls for, at no extra cost.
How is my stuff covered, and how would a claim go?
We are fully licensed and carry a million dollars in cargo coverage. The standard released-value basis of 60 cents per pound applies to any job, and you may upgrade, figure 1 to 3 percent of the worth you declare, for protection priced item by item. A claim is filed straight with our office, a California-licensed carrier and never a broker, and you have a nine-month window to submit it.
Do you do the packing, or is that on me?
Split it whatever way suits you. Hand over the entire pack, give us just the rooms that worry you (kitchens, breakables, electronics, and art tend to head the worry list), or pick up boxes and materials and do it yourself. Whatever our crew wraps carries the same protection as everything else loaded onto the truck.
Can you hold my things if my move-out and move-in dates miss?
We can, in a climate-controlled San Jose building that we own and operate, which holds electronics, wood, and art steady right through the wet winter. Depending on the unit you need, expect roughly $130 to $300 monthly, a figure we put down in writing together with the moving estimate. If a gap opens between one lease ending and the next starting, your things wait safely in our care and ship over the moment you say the word.
Will your crew handle a grand piano, a safe, or other dead weight?
That sits right in our wheelhouse. Marco Bianchi runs the heavy and specialized jobs: pianos of every size, gun safes, commercial and gym machinery, antiques, and the awkward, breakable items. Describe the object plus the route it must travel (stairs, a sharp turn, a floor above ground) and the proper gear and crew show up. Plan on roughly $350 to $520 for an upright piano, and on $600 to $900 once a baby grand enters the picture.
Do you keep the long-distance moves in-house?
Fully in-house. Our crew, our trucks, the entire distance. We run steady lanes out of San Jose to Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, Portland, Seattle, and Austin, and we take full cross-country jobs on top of those. Nowhere along the way does your move touch a load board or shift to a different carrier. One Jerry Wood team stays with it the entire trip, tracked the whole time by GPS.
Do stairs, a long carry, or elevators add to the cost?
All of that is folded into the survey we run ahead of the move, so it never ambushes your bill afterward. Flag the access for us beforehand (the third-floor Japantown walkup, the long push from a parking garage, the elevator window you booked) and it is already baked into the number you signed.
How can I pay?
Every major credit card and debit card works, and for larger out-of-state jobs we can arrange other terms should you need them. A line-by-line written quote lands ahead of the move, with a receipt to follow once it wraps, so your paperwork is left in no way fuzzy.
What if my plans shift and I need to cancel or move the date?
Plans change, and a hard winter storm sometimes forces a change of date. A local job reschedules or cancels penalty-free as long as notice is fair. Once a crew and a truck are committed to an out-of-state run, we ask for several days' warning, and all the terms live in writing beside the quote, with nothing tucked away.
Are these really your own movers, or is the labor outsourced?
Each of them is ours: salaried W-2 Jerry Wood movers, screened and full-time, driving trucks the company owns. No broker, no subcontractor, no labor grabbed off a curb, no matching service. The same hands that load your truck unload it once you arrive.
Is there anything you simply will not move?
Safety and regulation keep us from hauling hazardous material: paint and solvents, gasoline, propane tanks, household chemicals, ammunition. Perishable food, live plants, and pets stay behind as well. Ahead of time we will spell out precisely which things you should set apart, keeping the day smooth.
